Tommy Mottola Says He Is The Reason Why Mariah Carey Became A Star

Tommy Mottola says that he is the reason why Mariah Carey became such a big star.

According to Daily Mail, Mottola, former head of Sony Music and Mariah Careys first husband, has responded to claims saying that he was a controlling tyrant during their marriage. He wrote in his upcoming memoir that the singer should be grateful as he made her a star.

Carey, one of the most internationally known singers of all time, married Motolla when she was 23 years old.

Carey has previously described her four-year-long marriage to Mottola, the record executive who first signed her, as a private hell. She even said that Motolla, who happens to be 20 years older than Carey, used to mentally and emotionally abuse her.

Carey said that Mottola was extremely jealous and overpowering and she longed for someone to kidnap her from the unhappy marriage which lasted from 1993 to 1997.

According to Newser, Mottola admitted that he was controlling and obsessive. In his new memoir Hitmaker, Mottola said that was also part of the reason for her success.

Hey says that he turned Carey from a struggling backup singer into internationally known star that she is today.

He wrote:

I can only now wonder about the expression on my therapists face. She could no longer call me delusional.

The media later outed Mottola as a Glock-carrying thug, and Carey left him.
