Mariah Carey - Carey Heard Houston Death News In Hospital

Singer Mariah Carey was doubly-traumatised when she heard about her idol Whitney Houston's death last weekend (11Feb12) as she was tending to her sick husband Nick Cannon in hospital when the tragic news broke.

The I Will Always Love You hitmaker was found dead in the bathroom of her Los Angeles hotel suite last Saturday afternoon (11Feb12) and the tragedy hit headlines around the world just hours later.

Carey was left heartbroken and subsequently pulled out of a U.S. TV interview on Valentine's Day (14Feb12) to grieve Houston, and Cannon has now revealed his wife was in the middle of a family health scare when she heard the news.

He tells E! Online, "It was tough for many reasons. One, knowing how close my wife and Whitney were, and I was in the hospital during the time, and that's where we got the news.

"I was kinda in a life-threatening situation and then to see that, it was kind of bizarre and sad at the same time, but you know, it's part of life and it makes you step back and reflect and appreciate every day for what it is."

Cannon has been in and out of hospital since he was diagnosed with acute kidney failure on a post-Christmas (11) family vacation in Aspen, Colorado, and was back under doctors' care last Friday (10Feb12) when he was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and an enlarged ventricle in his heart.
