The 18-year-old British-born singer, who lives in Texas, had been praised for her powerful vocals by the judges but her performances have been deemed inconsistent. She was put in the bottom 3 five times before she was eliminated on Thursday's results show and had been largely criticized for many of her recent performances.
"I would love to sing a duet with Mariah Carey," Cavanagh said in a video interview posted on show host Ryan Seacrest's website after she was booted. "I don't know how that'd go down, because she's amazing, but I mean, I'd love to meet her one day.
Cavanagh told FOX All Access in a video interview that Carey has been her inspiration "for so long. I man, just from the beginning."
Cavanagh had competed on "American Idol" last year as well but was booted earlier in the season and did not make it to the top 40. She told FOX All Access: "I can't really complain about top 4. It's something I'm really proud of."
The remaining top three contestants are Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phllips and Jessica Sanchez. The 16-year-old singer emerged as a frontrunner earlier in the competition and was voted off last month but was then saved from elimination on the same episode by the judges in a rare move. She has already booked a high-profile gig - she is set to perform at PBS' National Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C. on May 27.
The top 10 finalists of the current season of "American Idol" are set to begin a Norther American tour in July, starting in Detroit. Tickets went on sale on Friday, May 11.
