Stevie Nicks, once named the Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll by Rolling Stone, has stepped into the ring with sparring pop stars Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj with some choice comments.
The two divas have been rumored to be feuding ever since Minaj was flagged as a contender for the celebrity judge panel on this season of American Idol. After much speculation, the spat reached new levels last week when a video taken from a cellphone on set was leaked and showed Minaj clearly antagonizing Carey.
Barbara Walters later reported on The View that Carey had spoken with her personally after the incident, and admitted that Minaj threatened to shoot her after the altercation. According to corroborating reports from TMZ, multiple people backstage heard Minaj say, If I had a gun I would shoot her.
On Tuesday the Fleetwood Mac singer added her voice to the chorus of opinionated parties, and she had harsh words for Nicki Minaj. In an interview in New York, where Nicks was promoting her new documentary In Your Dreams, the 64-year-old singer said she was galled by Minajs behavior.
"How dare this little girl! exclaimed Nicks. If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there. I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it."
Nicks formerly served as a coach on American Idol but says shes glad shes ! not involved this year with Minaj present as a judge. However, Nicks praised the show for giving opportunities to artists just beginning their careers.
When asked whether she and Lindsey Buckingham would have auditioned for a show like American Idol or The X Factor if they were starting out as aspiring musicians today, Nicks said absolutely, reported the Daily.
Thats how you get seen these days, she said. But after considering it for a moment she added, I would have had to drag [Lindsey] kicking and screaming. He probably would have given them the finger.
Nicks rejected the idea that she would ever serve as a judge on such a show, however. If you stick me in the middle of a burning fire, I dont think Id like it very much, she said.
