Carey's husband hospitalised after holiday

Mariah Carey's ailing husband has undergone surgery in Los Angeles after suffering acute kidney failure while on holiday in Aspen.

Actor and TV personality Nick Cannon was transferred from the popular winter playground to a hospital in Los Angeles last week so he could be closer to the home he shares with Carey and their twin babies.

Cannon has told his Twitter followers that he's had surgery.

"Just left the operating table and I was awake during the whole procedure. Ouch," he tweeted.

However, Cannon is feeling optimistic following the surgery.

"Recovering... about to be stronger than ever."

Carey is hopeful Cannon will be home from hospital this week.

The singer has been at her husband's bedside throughout the ordeal and even refused to leave his private room when doctors suggested she should let him spend time alone and rest.

"Nick is in stable condition with a good prognosis, hopefully he'll be discharged within 2 days... As always he's laughing and in good spirits," she tweeted on Friday.

The tweet was accompanied by a photo of a smiling Cannon lying next to Carey on his hospital bed.

She also thanked friends, family and fans for their support.

"Thank you everyone for all the love & concern," she tweeted.

Carey and Cannon have two children together, twins Monroe and Moroccan born in April last year.
