Mariah Carey sings Triumphant tune

Mariah Carey has revealed how her new single Triumphant (Get 'Em) was inspired by her own experiences.

The five-time Grammy-winner, who has joined American Idol as a judge, said that she penned the track when she had her own battles to fight.

"I wrote TRIUMPHANT when I was going through a difficult time & it helped me get through it. When u hear it, pay attention 2 the lyrics #WIN," tweeted the mother-of-two.

The dance song, featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill, is the first single from Mariah's 14th studio album and will be available to buy from August 5.

It will also feature some exclusive remixes, to be produced by some of the hottest names in the dance world.

"I've always had so much fun re-singing my songs for the club/dance mixes. It gives me the freedom to sing as powerfully as I want and to rewrite the songs specifically for the genre," said Mariah, who will return to the big screen in Lee Daniels' The Butler.

Co-producer and co-writer Bryan-Michael Cox told MTV.com: "This song is kind of inspirational. It's close to her heart, and I think her fans are going to really, really be emotionally attached to this song. I expect that this record's going to be a huge record."

He also said that Mariah has been working on the upcoming record since the birth of one-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.

"She was committed to making it before she got pregnant. Then she got pregnant and she took the time off. Then after she came back, we started really vibing again and we picked up right where we left off," he added.
