'X Factor' Simon Cowell on Beyonc, Mariah, Katy Perry rumours: video

Simon Cowell has dismissed speculation that Mariah Carey could join the judging panel on The X Factor USA.

The 'Hero' singer was linked to a judging spot during its first season and had been scheduled to join Cowell for his Judges' Houses stage of the show, although extreme weather disrupted her travel plans.

A recent report suggested that she could be in the running for a judges' spot this season following the departure of panelists Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

However, speaking to Terri Seymour on Extra, Cowell said: "She's not on the list because I don't think Mariah would make that commitment. I really, really don't. She's just had kids, you have to work five days a week on t! his show and do all the travelling as well, so just to put it out there, she won't be on the list.

"I adore her, I love her, but you can't expect someone who has just had two kids and has got a recording career to make the kind of commitment we would need on this show."

Cowell - who told Seymour during the interview that X Factor didn't need an A-list judging panel - also dismissed rumours that Sir Elton John could judge, saying: "Absolutely not. He's in the Super Bowl commercial with Melanie Amaro but no, he wouldn't do it, and he'd be really difficult to work with!"

As for rumours that Beyonc has been approached about joining the show, he said: "It's absolute nonsense and I genuinely haven't had a conversation with her about it."

Cowell told Seymour that he didn't want to discuss names in the running for X Factor because it created "false rumours", as happened when he mentioned Carey's name in connection with the show last year.

However, he did share his thoughts on some of the potential judges suggested by Seymour, saying Madonna would be "great [but] expensive" and Katy Perry would be "fun", adding: "She is hard in a good way and she's feisty."

More from Cowell's interview with Seymour will air on Extra today (February 8).
