Who does your average 30-year-old want at their dream birthday party? Rihanna? Jay Z? Perhaps even The Spice Girls as one misty-eyed child of the Eighties here suggested.

Prince Azim (wonderful he) of Brunei however, has more, ahem, mature taste. The multi-billionaire playboy who is third in line to the throne of Brunei threw a lavish birthday party at The Dorchester Hotel in London last night with a guest list bursting at the seams with divas of a certain vintage.

Stars spotted jovially posing with the grinning, bouffant-haired, fancy-bearded Prince included Raquel Welch, 71, Faye Dunaway, 71, Jerry Hall, 55, Stephanie Beacham, 65, Marisa Tomei, 47, Pamela Anderson, 44, - who later took to the mic to serenade the prince, possibly with a rendition of happy birthday - in front of Mariah Carey, 42 (never a good idea) - and septuagenari! an soul singer, Dionne Warwick who also did a party turn on stage.

The only notable under 40s on the guest list were Jerry's daughter Lizzie Jagger and honorary boys - 33-year-old Glee star Matthew Morrison and 26-year-old Gossip Girl actor chase Crawford.

All the party was missing was Liza Minelli high-kicking her way through All That Jazz to make it the campest get-together of all time.

Prince Azim is no stranger to lavish celebrations. His birthday party in 2009 was dubbed 'The Party of the Year' with a guest list boasting Sophia Loren, Janet Jackson and Joan Collins and a flower bill that topped 70,000.

He is also famed for his generosity having previously presented Mariah Carey with $6 million of jewels.

Prince Azim doesn't even turn 30 for another month, so no doubt this was just the first in a series of celebrations to mark the milestone (get Liza on the phone!), all of which will doubtless be in stark contrast to how our own austerity Prince (William) chose to commemorate his 30th earlier this month: aboard a 'sea doughnut' being towed by a speedboat in freezing conditions, pouring rain and bitter winds, in Anglesey, North Wales.
