Katie Couric outs Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, Randy Jackson as American Idol judges
Nicki Minaj wasnt the only pissed off musical diva Monday.
According to a TMZ report, news of Minajs possibly-maybe-probably new gig on American Idol threw confirmed Idol judge Mariah Carey into a tizzy. So much so, that she reportedly hung up on the poor soul who was just letting her know of Minajs likely new role.
According to sources connected with Idol, the 42-year-old Carey, who was announced as the new judge in July after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler unexpectedly left the show, was led to believe that she would be the only woman on the panel. Turns out producers may have omitted over 40. A source told US Weekly yesterday that the 29-year-old Minaj is definitely doing American Idol next season.
Careys spokeswoman quickly put out a statement denying the receiver-rage.
This is not true, she wrote. Mariah is too much of a lady to ever do such a thing.
The news comes as Idol producers continue to rejig the show, which lost market share to NBCs The Voice last season.
TMZ reports there are two possible scenarios being played out, depending on the status of Idols only remaining judge from last season, Randy Jackson.
If Jackson decides to leave, or become a mentor rather than a judge, there will be another spot to fill. If he decides to keep his current position, producers are considering adding a fourth judge to balance out the sex ratio.
Either way, a male judge will likely be chosen and TMZ reports that Brad Paisley,Keith UrbanandEnrique Iglesias are the fron! trunners for the job.
Assuming producers (or social media managers, at least) are still willing to speak to her, Carey has someone else in mind. The emancipated Mimi tweeted a picture of herself (thats it below) with her The Butler co-star Lenny Kravitz to the shows Twitter account, asking @AmericanIdol Whats going on? need the info!! What about this combo? : ) if we could ever get him to do it!.
However, according to TMZ, one roadblock to Kravitzs nomination is American racism. The website reports that sources connected to the show are worried that middle America may not be ready for what they refer to as a judging blackout.
