Mariah Carey has added a Melbourne date to her Australian tour.

With her Sydney show selling out in just four minutes and her Gold Coast concert already sold out the singer and American Idol judge will play Melbourne's Etihad Stadium on Saturday, January 5.

"We are thrilled to be bringing an artist of Mariah Carey's calibre to Victoria and we know that Melbourne fans will give her a huge welcome. There has been enormous demand so fans will need to get in quick," Etihad's spokesman Bill Lane said.

It's been 14 years since the diva performed Down Under and Aussie fans will be in for an entertainment extravaganza with Carey performing hit songs including We Belong Together, Dream Lover and Fantasy.

Carey also aims to keep the festive spirit alive by performing songs from her two hit Christmas albums, which have sold more than 13 million copies worldwide.

Pre-sale tickets for the Melbourne show are now on sale, while general public tickets go on sale from Thursday.
